Faith & Freedom

The Pastalorian denomination of Pastafarianism is founded on sincerity. We do not exist as parody, mockery, or satire.
Our convictions are genuine and our religion is a belief system centered on the teachings of the Flying Spaghetti Monster providing a profound framework for our lives and community.

We explicitly reject all claims that our faith is a joke, social commentary, or simply a tool for protest.

To suggest otherwise is disrespectful, dismissive, ignores the lived experience / spiritual journey of our practitioners, and undermines the religious freedom of those who find true meaning in Pastafarianism.

Literal belief in the Flying Spaghetti Monster is not required. Our church welcomes individuals from any faith tradition or none at all. The essential standard is living a good, decent life in accordance with our values.

Religious liberty is a god-given/human right.

We assert the right to believe, practice, and express our faith without interference or coercion. No government, court, employer, or outside authority should dictate religious beliefs or practices, restrict freedom of religious expression, or treat our religion differently than any other. We support government neutrality in matters of religion and defend equal legal standing and protection for all faiths, including our own.

Our public presence and legal standing are not contingent on anyone else’s approval or understanding. Pastalorians have the god-given/human right to assemble, engage in religious expression, and participate in civic life. Furthermore In USA, Pastafarianism and all other religions are protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.

As guaranteed by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”

And by Article VI, Clause 3 of the United States Constitution:

“No religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”

As John Adams affirmed regarding the Treaty of Tripoli (1796), ratified by the U.S. Senate:

“As the government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion … The United States is not a Christian nation any more than it is a Jewish or a Mohammedan nation.”

As Ronald Reagan stated on October 26, 1984,

speaking to members of the Congregation of Temple Hillel and Jewish community leaders in Valley Stream, New York:

“We establish no religion in this country. We command no worship. We mandate no belief, nor will we ever.

Church and state are, and must remain, separate.”

The Whey

The Whey is the guiding code of our lives as interpreted through the teachings of The FSM.

The Whey calls us to act with courage and do what is right in all things. Every action is a reflection of one’s character and commitment to what is right. Courage is shown through standing firmly for justice and defending those who cannot defend themselves.

Living by the Whey means practicing fairness, honesty, and accountability in all dealings. It demands respect for others, care for the community, and a dedication to personal growth and principled living. Compassion is as important as courage, and strength is measured by the ability to do what is right, even when it is difficult or goes unseen.

The Whey also embraces vigilance and mindfulness, encouraging each Pastalorian to be aware of the consequences of their choices and the impact of their actions on others. Ensuring that our freedom and talents are used to uplift others and protect what is good are central to living the Whey.

Through the Whey, Pastalorians cultivate a life that honors the Flying Spaghetti Monster, our community, and the principles of justice, respect, and moral courage that sustain a flourishing, healthy world.

We say “This is the Whey” to remind ourselves and others of our commitment to these principles. Just as whey protein supports strength in the body, the Whey supports strength in character, community, and spirit. Our actions, choices, and conduct reflect the sacred guidance given to us by the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Holy Liberty

Our religious views are not merely private thoughts; they are the sacred foundation of our civil liberties.

Pirates were the original followers of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and are considered God’s chosen people. Pirates symbolize the fight against injustice. They represent courage, independence, and the refusal to submit to unfair authority. Pirates were peaceful unless provoked, standing against oppression and wrongdoing, including acts like slave trading.

As God’s chosen people, we hold the sacred belief that liberty is indivisible. Our religious views dictate that every practitioner has an inalienable, sacred right to bodily autonomy, freedom of conscience, and unfettered expression. We believe these holy liberties are essential spiritual conditions to fulfill our divine journey.

Pirate imagery serves as a reminder that resisting tyranny and injustice is both a moral duty and a god-given/human right.

Acting against oppression reflects the principles we uphold in our faith.

Challenge wrongdoing, protect the vulnerable, and live with courage in the face of injustice.

This is the Whey.

Equality

Equality means being treated with the same respect, dignity, and consideration as others, regardless of identity, background, or personal characteristics. We hold that all who act ethically according to the Whey are equal. Every person who treats others with honesty and fairness deserves respect and inclusion.
This is the Whey.

God-Given Right to Health & Bodily Autonomy

We are the FSM’s creation. Therefore, human rights and god-given rights are the same concept.

Every individual has the absolute god-given/human right to make decisions about their own body, free from interference by other individuals, religious institutions, healthcare providers, insurers, third parties, government, or any outside authority. Access to healthcare, including reproductive care, is a fundamental god-given/human right.

Abortion is healthcare, and all medical choices belong solely to the individual.

A fetus is not a baby. An individual's life begins at first breath.

Every individual holds the god-given/human right to determine their own body’s path, including what they consume, reproductive choices, body alteration, gender expression, and medical transition. Honoring one’s true self, through transition or modification, is a sacred act of autonomy in Pastalorian belief. This includes and is not limited to all forms of artistic and personal expression such as tattoos, piercings, and other body modifications. All people have the sacred right to be free and comfortable in their own body.

We celebrate the full spectrum of gender and body diversity as expressions of the FSM’s creativity. The Pastalorian denomination opposes all forms of discrimination, coercion, or restriction regarding bodily autonomy, gender identity, body art, or medical care. Compassion, freedom, and respect for individual choice is sacred.

We also affirm the right of every person to make compassionate, informed decisions about end-of-life care. This includes the god-given/human right to choose a peaceful and dignified death, with access to palliative care and, when freely chosen, assisted dying. The choice to end suffering is a personal and sacred matter, deserving of support, empathy, and respect.

Religious Expression

Wearing a colander on the head is one of many religious expressions within Pastafarianism.

It functions as a symbol of belief, conscience, and religious identity.

In official settings, identification photographs, ceremonies, and public gatherings, the colander may be worn as an expression of faith.

Its use stands on the same constitutional foundation that protects other religious head coverings:

equal treatment under the law and freedom of religion.

The colander is an outward sign of inward conviction. It rejects the idea that faith must be hidden, diluted, or softened to be respected.

Wearing it is voluntary. It is deliberate. It is a matter of religious liberty.

This is the Whey.

Opposition to the Indoctrination of Children

We do not indoctrinate children. Presenting religion to minors as truth, requiring them to participate, or teaching faith as fact is indoctrination. Children should never be pressured, recruited, or expected to accept religious claims.

In the Pastalorian denomination, we believe children must be allowed to develop freely and make up their own minds about faith when they are mature enough. The right to self-determination in matters of faith is a god-given/human right. We encourage critical thinking, curiosity, and honest questions; never using fear, guilt, or manipulation.

True respect for children means letting them choose for themselves, in their own time.
This is the Whey.
